All over the globe, the economic stalemate we’ve all been facing has had an amazing effect on the amount of home businesses that have cropped up over the last few years. With the corporate world still experiencing ongoing effects of economic slowdown, budgets are still not up enough to decrease the unemployment rates very much. There are millions of people still of out of work, skilled and talented people who need to pay mortgages, rent and other bills. There are so many different self-employment options out there, it can be a daunting task to even begin researching them. Here are a few tips to help narrow down your possibilities:

Try to get a few options before moving on to the next step.
• Once you decide which business or businesses type you can start based on your skills, you need to check out the competition in your area for your business choice. In a down economy, being the 20th web design company within a 10 mile radius is probably not a smart decision for a new business.
• Check out the web for your competition as well. Perhaps you can take your company global and remove the concern of staying local. You have the opportunity with this type of business of being virtually located. In other words, you need no physical office, your website is where clients find you, and you can work from home or anywhere you can get an internet connection.

By taking these few preliminary steps, you’re well on your way in deciding which business is right for you.
