Moms! Six exciting, easy and inexpensive winter crafts for kids projects by Elysse B
On those cold, blustery days of winter, when the weather doesn’t permit the usual outdoor activities, it’s a good idea to have a few ideas for winter crafts for kids up your sleeve to allay their restlessness, without having to resort to the TV to keep them entertained and happy campers. Winter crafts projects spark their creativity and give them something to be proud to see displayed in their home. Let’s take a look at a few projects any Mom can use to (inexpensively) keep the kids productively occupied and happy.
1. Sun catcher kits are so popular with kids at any time of the year, but are especially fun as winter crafts for kids, catching the cool light of winter days, hinting with their bright colors of the coming spring.
2. Buy a half dozen plain plastic or fabric placemats. Go to the crafts store and get some winter themed stencils, such as snowflakes or pine trees, or holiday themes, such as New Year’s or Valentine’s Day and make some stenciled placemats.
3. Door wreaths are one of the favorite winter crafts for kids projects. Again, go to the crafts shop. Grapevine and raffia wreaths can be decorated with faux winter birdies, holly, or dried flowers. With a little ribbon and lace, you’ve got a conversation piece for the front door – or the kitchen, for that matter.
4. Build a wild bird house feeder, fun for the kids and certainly appreciated by the birds. You can buy kits online, or you can purchase one all ready to go. Get a bag of wild bird seed and be sure to locate the birdhouse feeder such that lurking kitties can look, but not touch. If you can, get a pair of binoculars so the kids can see what these feathered friends are up to.
5. Here’s another favorite winter crafts for kids project. Crafts and toy stores carry kits for making molded plastic coasters, which can be embellished with all manner of swirlies and sparklies. Kids love them, they can be used anywhere and make great gifts.
6. During December and January, it’s easy to force certain bulbs, such as paper-whites and narcissus. This project brings a little bit of spring into the house, before spring has sprung!
So there you have several easy winter crafts for kids, enough to cover all those cold, wet days when the kids are stuck indoors. Also, doing these once is sometimes not enough – if the kids want to repeat some of these projects, all make great gifts. You’ll have no grumpy faces, or need to wonder “What are they up to now?”
